The Kids' Cancer Project say thanks for the support!
An incredible fundraising effort this year by B2B swimmers for the event charity partner The Kids' Cancer Project. So far over $26,000 has been raised for this incredible organisation in 2013. There is still time to support a fellow swimmer who is fundraising... help them acheive their goal to help The Kids' Cancer Project find a cure for cancer!
Macquarie have kindly donanted two great prizes for the top 2 fundraisers as well as matching all Macquarie staff fundraising efforts.
Last minute tips for a great swim...
Stay Warm & Hydrated
The wonderful people at Grace Self Storage will be transporting all swimmer belongings to Bronte Park again this year. This means you can stay in your clothing longer. Leave your valuables at home and only bring the absolute essentials like a water bottle!
Know the course, your ability & your strategy for the start
Study the course and conditions so you can plan your swim effectively. Listen to the swim briefing prior to each wave start. Be aware of your own ability, start behind others if you don't like a few (unintentional) bumps. Watch other waves tackle the start and work out what's best for you.
The B2B aint no pool!
11 fluoro pink markers/buoys and the giant pink banner (you can see from Mackenzie's) will again guide you to Bronte. Make sure you look up to check your course often. The last buoy will be fluoro green, so that's when you know to turn for the finish. Careful of those dumpers! Be sure to look back for the waves coming behind you.
Other Swimmers and you
Ocean swimming is the 2nd biggest growth sport in the world - so there are heaps of newbies in every swim, every year.
So please be aware of other swimmers and don't be overly aggressive! There's also no don't react if you do get bumped, hopefully it's an unintentional bump.
If you are new to ocean swimming please be aware of the two things that ocean swimmers do not tolerate:
1. NEVER breast stroke around the buoys. If you do, you will kick someone in the face or chest... and that may come back at you! So just don't do it!
2. NEVER annoy another swimmer by toe touching whilst drafting... give each other some space, go wide if you want to overtake... don't be a pest or bully.
We are excited for a great day!
We would like to say a huge thanks to the event partners for helping us make the day a great one for all swimmers... Macquaire, Banana Boat, Speedo, Grace Self Storage, Bennett Surfboards & Schick are this year's amazing supporters.
